After two games on the road, Elgin/Pope John is heading back home. They will take on the Plainview Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, everything went Elgin/Pope John's way against Neligh-Oakdale as Elgin/Pope John made off with a 52-30 win. Given Elgin/Pope John's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Neligh-Oakdale is ranked 99th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Elgin/Pope John's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kate Furstenau, who scored 16 points. Keyera Eisenhauer was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, Plainview entered their tilt with Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Plainview took down Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 48-30 on Tuesday.
Plainview's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Teya Boyer led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 10 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Boyer has scored at least 25% of Plainview's points. Another player making a difference was Abbie Kromarek, who scored 14 points along with 5 steals.
The opposite results left the teams with opposite records: Elgin/Pope John's win pushed their record up to 3-0, while Neligh-Oakdale's loss dropped theirs down to 0-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Elgin/Pope John and Plainview are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Elgin/Pope John hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 56.7 points per game. It's a different story for Plainview, though, as they've been averaging only 52 per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run up the score up higher Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
Elgin/Pope John didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Plainview in their previous matchup back in February, but they still walked away with a 61-56 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Plainview's Keanu Johnson, who scored 19 points. Now that she won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Elgin/Pope John to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
