Mica Mountain is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Douglas is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Mica Mountain Thunderbolts will take on the Douglas Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Mica Mountain's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests.
Mica Mountain scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 77-21 victory over Walden Grove. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Mica Mountain has managed all season.
Isabella Webb and Kayla Mathie were among the main playmakers for Mica Mountain as the former scored 16 points along with four steals and the latter scored 17 points along with five steals. Webb has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last ten times she's played. Ceraya Grace-Bandy was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, Douglas didn't have too much trouble with Amphitheater on the road on Friday as they won 56-42. Given Douglas' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Amphitheater is ranked 99th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Douglas to victory, but perhaps none more so than Francia Rubio, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 steals. Rubio is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Scarlette Ruiz, who scored 16 points along with five steals.
Mica Mountain has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Douglas, their victory bumped their record up to 18-4.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Mica Mountain have been dynamite from deep this season, having only drained 36.8% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Douglas struggles in that department as they've only nailed 36.1% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Mica Mountain was taken down by Douglas 75-45 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Mica Mountain, Karolina Padilla (who dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
