Berkeley Springs is on a 12-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Musselman a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Berkeley Springs Indians will be playing in front of their home fans against the Musselman Applemen at 7:00 p.m.
Berkeley Springs fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Mountain Ridge on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Miners by a score of 4-3.
Kyle Moore and Kyle Rankin were huge no matter where they played even without the win. Throwing, Moore pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Rankin pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2024. At bat, Moore got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI, while Rankin went 3-for-5 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Shawn McCumbee was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Musselman got the win against GVCS Broadfording on Wednesday by a conclusive 12-6.
The team relied heavily on Taryn Boyles, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Musselman's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-12 when he doesn't). Ethan Hinchman was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Musselman is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Berkeley Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-19.
Berkeley Springs might still be hurting after the 13-5 loss they got from Musselman in their previous matchup on April 3rd. Will the Indians have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
