The Hartford Central Tanagers stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Fort Ann 52-23 at home. Given Hartford Central's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 326th, while Fort Ann is ranked 658th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alawnah Dunda was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 18 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Cailin Severance, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Despite the defeat, Fort Ann had strong showings from Madison Freebern, who scored three points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Summer Iacobucci, who scored four points. Freebern is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played.
Hartford Central has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. As for Fort Ann, they dropped their record down to 5-10 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Hartford Central will face off against Cambridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Hartford Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Wednesday. As for Fort Ann, they will head out on the road to challenge Warrensburg at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Warrensburg will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Fort Ann surely won't give up without a fight.
