After a string of six wins, Wheeler's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 50-40 to the Griffith Panthers. The Bearcats lost against the Panthers in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 71-22 score last time.
Despite the loss, Wheeler still got an impressive performance from Nick Scott, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Mclaughlin, who posted six points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Griffith to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaylan Rockett, who had 17 points. Another player making a difference was Gianni Feaster, who put up 14 points.
Wheeler's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3. As for Griffith, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheeler will venture away from home to face off against Whiting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Griffith, they will head out on the road to challenge Crown Point at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th.
