The Memorial Warriors will challenge the Liberty Redhawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Friday, Memorial needed a bit of extra time to put away Emerson. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Mavericks 5-4.
Sophia Cooper spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Memorial let Sanaa Moses and Caiden Coleman run wild. Moses went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Coleman went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Liberty made easy work of Independence on Friday and carried off a 14-3 win. Considering the Redhawks have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Liberty got a massive performance out of Alaina Evans, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Evans a new career-high. Anna Reeves was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Liberty is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Memorial, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.
Memorial might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Liberty in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
