There's no place like home for the Clewiston Tigers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Wednesday. They escaped with a win on Monday against LaBelle by the margin of a single free throw, 51-50. For Clewiston, this counts as revenge for the 40-22 defeat LaBelle walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2023.
Clewiston found their leader in underclassman Milan Holomes, who scored 11 points along with nine steals. Another player making a difference was Tyra Fields, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why LaBelle lost, one person who can't be blamed is Marissa Burchard. Despite the final result, she scored 24 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Burchard is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braulynne Flores, who scored four points along with nine rebounds.
Clewiston's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. As for LaBelle, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clewiston will square off against Glades Central at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Glades Central is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. LaBelle won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Gateway Charter at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Gateway Charter is ranked 322nd, while LaBelle is ranked 337th).
