McHenry has gone a perfect 8-0 against Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Warriors will face off against the Rockets at 4:30 p.m. McHenry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
McHenry will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Friday, then bounced right back against Dundee-Crown on Monday. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over the Chargers. Considering the Warriors have won four games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Natalie Bender spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, McHenry got a massive performance out of Elyse Fullington, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lyla Oeffling, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Fullington wasn't the only one making solid contact: McHenry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Crystal Lake Central, falling 7-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Isabella Reed was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kelsey Covey, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Central's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-6. As for McHenry, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-6.
Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: McHenry hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. It's a different story for Central, though, as they've only averaged .242. Will they be able to contain McHenry's hitters?
McHenry skirted past Central 6-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Rockets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
