The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs will challenge the Pompano Beach Golden Tornadoes at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cardinal Gibbons lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Coral Glades, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's contest. The Chiefs were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Jaguars on Wednesday. The victory was nothing new for the Chiefs as they're now sitting on five straight.
Lydia Berent was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs.
In other batting news, Morgan Beavers was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Skylar Flack, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Cardinal Gibbons kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Pompano Beach hadn't done well against Cooper City recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Golden Tornadoes blew past the Cowboys 14-3. Winning may never get old, but the Golden Tornadoes sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Pompano Beach got a massive performance out of GABI OLIVER, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. ELLIE KLEE was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.
Cardinal Gibbons pushed their record up to 19-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Pompano Beach, their win bumped their record up to 13-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cardinal Gibbons has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pompano Beach struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Cardinal Gibbons skirted past Pompano Beach 2-1 when the teams last played back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chiefs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
