Baseball Recap: J.F. Webb Takes a Loss

J.F. Webb extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-8 in the process. They lost 16-5 to the Durham School of the Arts Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 11-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Lucas Matthews made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for J.F. Webb: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthoni Marling, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Durham School of the Arts, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 11 runs or more this season.

On Durham School of the Arts' side, Lucas Bartosik made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. Bartosik has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with four runs and one triple. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mars Hartmann was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one double, and one RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Oliver Seed was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

J.F. Webb has already played their next game, a 6-4 defeat against Southern School of Energy and Sustainability on the 16th. As for Durham School of the Arts, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 2-1 loss against Carrboro on the 23rd.
