Softball Recap: North Buncombe Picks Up Second Consecutive Victory

Ten must be North Buncombe's lucky number: they beat Asheville with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. The Black Hawks beat the Cougars by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-6. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-6 on Tuesday.

Sadie Jo Hunter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Ali Jo Rice was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Gracelynn Fisher was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

North Buncombe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Asheville only posted an OBP of .360.

The victory made it two in a row for North Buncombe and bumps their season record up to 8-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Asheville, their loss was their 21st straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-22.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Buncombe will venture away from home to face off against Erwin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Black Hawks are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Asheville, they are taking a road trip to take on Enka at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Jets will roll in looking for their 19th straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
