Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Thursday. Evangel Christian Academy walked away with a 7-3 win over Rocky Mountain Lutheran. The victory continues a trend for Evangel Christian Academy in their matchups with Rocky Mountain Lutheran: they've now won four in a row.
Anderson Schultz and Levi Alexander were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Schultz pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Alexander pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Evangel Christian Academy is 3-1 when Schultz allows two or fewer hits, but 2-4 otherwise. At bat, Schultz went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Alexander went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Alexander a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zachary Blair, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Evangel Christian Academy: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise.
Simla pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Evangel Christian Academy, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Simla has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Evangel Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Simla was able to grind out a solid victory over Evangel Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 14-9. Do the Cubs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
