Clearwater and Countryside are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2020, but likely not for long. The Tornadoes will face off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Clearwater has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Clearwater's offense. They fell just short of Northeast by a score of 2-0 last Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tornadoes have suffered since February 24th.
Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Countryside rose to the challenge on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 16-0 shutout. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Lily Mandilk made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Sprague, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Lauren Robinson, who earned two RBI, three runs, and one stolen base.
Countryside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
The win made it two in a row for Countryside and bumps their season record up to 6-12. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Clearwater, their loss dropped their record down to 9-13.
Everything went Clearwater's way against Countryside in their previous meeting back in March, as Clearwater made off with a 12-0 win. Do the Tornadoes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
