The South Bend Clay Colonials lost against the Mishawaka Marian Knights back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. South Bend Clay fell to Mishawaka Marian 37-33. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for South Bend Clay in their matchups with Mishawaka Marian: they've now lost eight in a row.
Several Colonials players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maliya Freeman, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 45.5% of South Bend Clay's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrece Cunningham, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, South Bend Clay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their 11th loss (out of 13 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
South Bend Clay bumped their record down to 2-16 with that loss, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.4 points per game. As for Mishawaka Marian, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-16.
South Bend Clay will take on South Bend Riley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Bend Riley is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak. As for Mishawaka Marian, they will head out on the road to challenge Glenn at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
