Softball Recap: Hiawatha Comes Up Short

Hiawatha was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Nemaha Central Thunder. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Kenzie Nelson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Michaela Williams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Hiawatha's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Nemaha Central, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.

Looking ahead, Hiawatha will host Rossville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Red Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Nemaha Central, they will head out to challenge Jefferson West at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Thunder's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season.
