Basketball Recap: Vero Beach Takes a Loss

Vero Beach was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against the Somerset College Prep Academy Spartans, falling 58-37. The Indians were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Spartans earlier this season, when they won 49-40.

Despite the loss, Vero Beach saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Shayla Baisley posted eight points and ten rebounds. Those ten boards set a new season-high mark for Baisley. The team also got some help courtesy of Zy?Noria Ferguson, who went 5 for 10 en route to 12 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Vero Beach smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Somerset College Prep Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Khloe Rodgers, who went 8 of 19 on her way to 19 points in addition to eight assists and five steals. The game was Rodgers' 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was London Rolle, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 boards.

Vero Beach's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Somerset College Prep Academy, their record is now 6-7.

Vero Beach will take on Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Somerset College Prep Academy, they will face off against Oxbridge Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
