Basketball Recap: Maritza Vaquero Key Part of a Team Effort in Raiders Win

Plant City fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They walked away with a 54-47 victory over the Blake Yellow Jackets on Saturday. For the Raiders, this counts as revenge for the 42-32 win the Yellow Jackets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Plant City to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maritza Vaquero, who went 8 of 16 en route to 17 points. Those 17 points gave Vaquero a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Valerio, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 10 points and four steals.

Plant City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Plant City has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-12 record this season. As for Blake, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.

Plant City has already played their next contest (against Hillsborough), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Blake will challenge Wharton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Blake has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
