6A Special District 1 recap October 1, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 6A Special District 1 this week, Roseburg beat South Eugene 34-21. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Indians.
North Medford was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Crater. The Black Tornado came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 33 last week.
North Medford's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Troy Fowler threw for 473 and 6 touchdowns and Eugene Ellis had 149 yards receiving. On the ground Nick Janakas contributed 73 yards. Jared Evans helped North Medford's passing attack out by catching 9 balls for 126 yards.

Colton Johnson was a key player and the best on defense this week as Thurston lost to Grants Pass. The 6-foot-1 senior racked up 2.0 sacks.
Ty Fox provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Crater fell to the Black Tornado. He completed 26 passes for 530 yards and also ran for 65 yards. Fox's key target this week was Matt Dent, who caught 4 passes for 129 yards.
He was 27-36 with 1 interception.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, john Beck's team's Fox and Kory Bennett have proven to be a lethal combination. Fox has thrown for 1,537 yards this season, while Bennett, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 25 catches for 435 yards. The Colts' Roy Jackson leads the league in rushing yards with 463.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Thurston takes on North Medford. Justin Starck's team is in sixth place, while the Black Tornado are in second place.
South Medford lost to Sheldon 49-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
