Softball Recap: Gibson Southern Extends Winning Streak to Three

Gibson Southern entered their tilt with Jasper on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 12-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won eight matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Carly Potts spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gibson Southern let Laney Scherer and Morgan Bezy run wild. Scherer went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Bezy went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Bezy has posted since back in April. Emerson Walker was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

Gibson Southern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jasper only posted an OBP of .190.

Gibson Southern's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-8. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Jasper, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-8-1 record this season.

Gibson Southern will head out to square off against Princeton at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Jasper, they will square off against Vincennes Lincoln at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are facing the Alices at the right time seeing as the Alices are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
