It was a Battle of the Birds when Jefferson Area faced off against Geneva on Monday. The Falcons blew past the Eagles 13-2. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.
Olivia Lewis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Allison Hill was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Makenna Stanich was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Jefferson Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Geneva only posted an OBP of .333.
The victory got Jefferson Area back to even at 9-9. As for Geneva, they suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 6-8.
Looking ahead, Jefferson Area will face off against Sharon at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 0.5 runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Geneva, they will take on Conneaut at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
