The Althoff Catholic Crusaders fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Centralia Orphans on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Orphans 53-48. It was the first time this season that Althoff Catholic let down their fans at home.
When it comes to explaining why Althoff Catholic lost, one person who can't be blamed is Emilee Travnicek. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Travnicek has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Reece Distler was another key contributor, scoring five points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Althoff Catholic's loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-11. As for Centralia, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 17-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Althoff Catholic will take on Marquette Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Althoff Catholic is facing Marquette Catholic at the right time seeing as Marquette Catholic is stuck on a five-game losing streak. Centralia's road trip will continue as they head out to face Richland County at 7:30 p.m. on February 5th. Hopefully Richland County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Thursday.
