Boston - South recap October 22, 2013
O'Bryant added to the longest winning streak in Boston - South this week by beating South Boston/Excel/Green Academy/Snowden International/Quincy Upper, 41-6. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Tigers.
Dorchester made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,121 from 11,557. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 36-0 victory over East Boston last week.
Boston English's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Emmanuel Almonte threw for 64 yards and Stevaughan Dowdye had 44 yards receiving. On the ground Almonte contributed 190 yards.
Ajani Alfred-McFall made the biggest impact on defense this week as O'Bryant bested South Boston/Excel/Green Academy/Snowden International/Quincy Upper. The 5-foot-9 senior nabbed 1 interception.
Almonte was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 190 yards on 20 carries as the Bulldogs topped West Roxbury/Urban Science Academy. Darius Boodoosingh also contributed to the rushing game with 85 yards on the ground.
Boston English's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bulldogs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Almonte has thrown for 467 yards and 2 touchdowns this season, while Dowdye has 24 catches for 219 yards. Almonte also leads the league in rushing with 1,025 yards.
The top two teams in Boston - South will face off this week when first place O'Bryant takes on second place Boston Latin Academy.
Kevin Gadson's team led the league in scoring this week by notching 41 points on South Boston/Excel/Green Academy/Snowden International/Quincy Upper. Mekhi Williams ran for 67 yards during the win.
