Holy Cross's Burt Pouncy rumbled for the longest rushing play in 2A District 6 this season in his game against Newport last week. Pouncy scampered for 67 yards on the play and finished with 155 on the day as his team defeated the Wildcats.
Lloyd Memorial extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Bishop Brossart, 28-0. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Holy Cross' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mitch Trail threw for 154 and two touchdowns and Pouncy had 93 yards receiving. On the ground Jalen Beal chipped in 184 yards. Travis Gabbard helped Holy Cross' passing attack out by catching three balls for 39 yards.
Bruce Kozerski's team's Trail and Pouncy have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Trail has thrown for 581 yards this season, while Pouncy, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 19 catches for 359 yards. The Mustangs' Jacob Elbert leads the league in rushing yards with 1093.
The top two teams in 2A District 6 will face off this week when first place Lloyd Memorial takes on second place Newport Central Catholic. Lloyd Memorial defeated Bishop Brossart last week, while Newport Central Catholic fell to Holmes.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Thoroughbreds take on the Juggernauts. Newport Central Catholic has allowed 131 points this season, while Lloyd Memorial has given up 145. Eddie Eviston 's team allowed 12 points last week as it lost to the Bulldogs.
The Indians led the league in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on Newport. Pouncy in the win.
