It was a good run, but the Hueytown Golden Gophers unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a hard 71-53 fall against Southside. While losing is never fun, Hueytown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while Southside is ranked 29th).
Southside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grace Anne rose led the charge by scoring 17 points. The game was Anne rose's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Madison Shaw, who scored 18 points.
Hueytown's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Southside, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-2.
Hueytown will be playing in front of their home fans against James Clemens at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. James Clemens is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. Southside won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Thompson at 11:30 a.m. on December 29th. Thompson has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
