The Columbus Explorers will head out on the road to square off against the Killian Cougars at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Columbus' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Killian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Columbus will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Palmetto on Thursday. The Explorers blew past the Panthers 11-1. The Explorers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Dayan Viciedo looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.

At the plate, Maximus Alvarez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ivan Perez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Columbus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palmetto only posted an OBP of .350.
Meanwhile, Killian beat Cardinal Gibbons 7-3 on Wednesday.
Ryan Llambes tossed a big game, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Daniel Huerta and Johnny Chen See did most of the damage at the plate: Huerta went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Chen See got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double. GianMichael Cueto also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Columbus pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Killian, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Columbus has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. However, it's not like Killian struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Columbus' way against Killian in their previous matchup back in February of 2025, as Columbus made off with an 8-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Explorers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
