Kankakee Valley is a perfect 7-0 against Rensselaer Central since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Kougars will venture away from home to take on the Bombers at 4:30 p.m.
On Friday, Kankakee Valley came up short against Munster and fell 6-3. The loss continues a trend for the Kougars in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost nine in a row.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rensselaer Central). They blew past Lafayette Central Catholic 25-4 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Bombers, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Kali Northcutt made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Rensselaer Central got a massive performance out of Brooke Koebcke, who went 4-for-5 with six RBI, two triples, and two runs. Those two triples gave Koebcke a new career-high. Brynn Hannon was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles.
Rensselaer Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .629. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Rensselaer Central is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Kankakee Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
Kankakee Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Rensselaer Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 4-1. Will the Kougars repeat their success, or do the Bombers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
