The Fremont Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Fremont is hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Fremont suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They had to suffer through a rough 64-22 loss at the hands of Bellevue East. While losing is never fun, Fremont can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while Bellevue East is ranked 82nd).
Despite the loss, Fremont got a solid performance out of Matthea Dalton, who scored two points along with 11 rebounds. Dalton hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Fremont struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Southwest scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 69-33 win over Omaha South at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Lincoln Southwest has posted since December 8, 2023.
Lincoln Southwest can attribute much of their success to Kennadi Williams, who scored 16 points along with seven steals, and Eleanor Griffin, who scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Griffin has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kallen Stauffer, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Fremont's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Lincoln Southwest, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-1.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Fremont have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Lincoln Southwest, though, as they've been averaging only 28.9 rebounds per game. Given Fremont's sizeable advantage in that area, Lincoln Southwest will need to find a way to close that gap.
Fremont lost to Lincoln Southwest on the road by a decisive 55-41 margin when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Fremont, Aniya Seymore (who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
