Florence is 0-2 against Natchez since November of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Florence Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Natchez Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Florence fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They came out on top against North Pike by a score of 28-16 on Friday.
Meanwhile, Natchez had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat South Jones 36-0 at home. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Natchez had established a 30 point advantage.
Among those leading the charge was Jakel Irving, who rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 45 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes. Irving was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards.
Natchez's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Irving and his three sacks.
Florence's win on Friday bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Natchez, their victory on Friday bumped their record up to 4-4.
Florence might still be hurting after the 38-17 loss they got from Natchez in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Thankfully for Florence, Traylon Minor (who rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.6 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
