The Cedaredge Bruins had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They strolled past Nucla with points to spare, taking the game 49-32. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Cedaredge has managed all season.
Carley Malinowski continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Cedaredge's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammy Denison, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Nucla saw an underclassman step up: Shay Snyder scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Nucla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cedaredge only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Cedaredge's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Nucla, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.
Cedaredge will look to defend their home court on Friday against Roaring Fork at 5:30 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Riley Bevington and Malinowski. As for Nucla, they will head out on the road to square off against Dove Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dove Creek is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
