The Stowe Raiders will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Williamstown Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Stowe's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They fell just short of Peoples Academy by a score of 55-52.
Meanwhile, Williamstown faced Vergennes in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Williamstown managed a 60-56 victory over Vergennes on Saturday. Williamstown's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Williamstown's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Colby Laggner, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds, and Evan Bailey, who shot 5-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Bailey has scored at least 25% of Williamstown's points. Alex Clark was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Stowe's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Williamstown, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Stowe took a serious blow against Williamstown in their previous meeting back in March of 2018, falling 81-35. Can Stowe avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
