Football Game Preview: Edison Chargers vs. Central Grizzlies

Edison is on a ten-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Central is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Edison Chargers will host the Central Grizzlies at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Edison's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last three contests.

Edison is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They snuck past Granite Hills with a 34-28 win.

Julius Gillick was his usual excellent self, rushing for 253 yards and three touchdowns. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in September.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Edison was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 255 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 152 rushing yards in five consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Central won against Clovis East back in November with 33 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. Central came out on top against St. Ignatius College Preparatory by a score of 33-23.

Central found their leader in sophomore Aidan Chavez, who made 18 total tackles (0.5 for loss).

Central wouldn't let St. Ignatius College Preparatory keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Central can thank Xavior Jones and Brandon Smith for forcing both of them. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: Smith posted at least 110 rushing yards in the third games prior. Another thorn in St. Ignatius College Preparatory's side was Chavez, who made 18 total tackles (0.5 for loss).

Edison's record now sits at 11-4. As for Central, their record now sits at 12-2.

Saturday's game might be decided in the on the ground. Edison has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 217.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 191 rushing yards. It's looking like Saturday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
