The St. Rita Mustangs will be playing at home against the Marist RedHawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but St. Rita had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past Marian Catholic, posting a 35-0 win at home. The victory was just what St. Rita needed coming off of a 39-10 defeat in their prior contest.
St. Rita's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Derrick Stewart led the charge by rushing for 55 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Walter Jones, who picked up 117 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Marist entered their tilt with Niles Notre Dame with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Marist claimed a resounding 34-0 victory over Niles Notre Dame at home. The result was nothing new for Marist, who have now won four matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
John McAuliffe was his usual excellent self, rushing for 128 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.5 yards per carry. Owen Winters was another key contributor, rushing for 49 yards and a touchdown.
St. Rita now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Marist, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-5.
