The Bloomfield Bobcats will square off against the Aztec Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Bloomfield knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Aztec likes a good challenge.
On Thursday, Bloomfield got the win against Gallup by a conclusive 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Trae Woods made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Woods was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Johnny Yates was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Ryan Page, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Bloomfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Aztec made easy work of Shiprock on Thursday and carried off a 16-5 win. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Chieftains recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Like Bloomfield, Aztec also got a great game from a two-way player: Dalton Wilmer. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Wilmer has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Aztec got a massive performance out of Cory Douglas, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and three runs. That's the most runs Douglas has posted since back in April of 2024. Kale Watson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Bloomfield is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Aztec, their victory bumped their record up to 9-13.
Aztec's pitching crew better be locked in on Saturday. Bloomfield hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. It's a different story for Aztec, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Bloomfield in the park?
Bloomfield was able to grind out a solid win over Aztec in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 9-5. Will the Bobcats repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
