Houghton Lake gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They put the hurt on the Harrison Hornets with a sharp 17-5 win. For the Bobcats, this counts as revenge for the 17-6 victory the Hornets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.
Melanie Muringer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Muringer was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Megan Houserman was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Jayden Peel was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Coming up, Houghton Lake will face off against Farwell at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Harrison, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Grayling at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
