Lake Weir is 9-1 against Belleview since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Lake Weir Hurricanes on the road again and play against the Belleview Rattlers at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Lake Weir focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Lake Weir was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 57-52 to North Marion.
Despite their defeat, Lake Weir saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. John Smith, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Smith also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Amari Kiner was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Belleview's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their 12th straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 58-43 to Palatka. While losing is never fun, Belleview can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 687th, while Palatka is ranked 158th).
Despite the loss, Belleview got a solid performance out of Demarcus Mcdaniel, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Wilson, who scored eight points.
Lake Weir bumped their record down to 6-8 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. Belleview's record is now 1-12.
Everything came up roses for Lake Weir against Belleview in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 83-37 victory. With Lake Weir ahead 39-19 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
