Softball Game Preview: Madison Patriots vs. Mitchell Mountaineers

For the second straight game, Madison will face off against Mitchell. The Patriots will host the Mountaineers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Madison's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Mitchell has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Madison is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Mitchell 22-4 on Tuesday. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by ten runs or more this season.

Carrie Gunter made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Madison got a massive performance out of Eleura Clark, who went 5-for-6 with four stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those five hits gave Clark a new career-high. Addie Sams was another key player, going 4-for-6 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.

Madison kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 26 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Madison's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Mitchell, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.

Madison's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Patriots have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Mitchell, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Madison continue to outrun the ball?
