Softball Recap: Camp Verde Comes Up Short

If Camp Verde was riding high fresh off their 22-6 takedown of Fountain Hills on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Camp Verde Cowboys lost 10-2 to the Round Valley Elks on Wednesday. The Cowboys were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Elks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2019.

Camp Verde saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Clancy Murdock, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Murdock is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Ashlyn Durnez also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Camp Verde dropped their record down to 2-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Round Valley, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.

Camp Verde didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 7-4 loss against Bisbee on the 12th. As for Round Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 13-1 victory against Ray on the 12th.
