The Alonso Ravens will challenge the Spoto Spartans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Alonso is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Alonso's offense. They lost 14-0 to Plant City on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Ravens have suffered since February 26th.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Spoto, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They put the hurt on Tampa Bay Tech with a sharp 14-4 victory on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Spartans' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Jasmine McCray made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. McCray was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Cara Kirkpatrick was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Chanel Williams, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Spoto always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tampa Bay Tech only posted an OBP of .318.
With the win, Spoto broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-8. As for Alonso, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.
Alonso got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 against Spoto by a conclusive 12-0 score. Do the Ravens have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
