The Muhlenberg Muhls will take on the Penn Manor Comets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Muhlenberg will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs last Wednesday, then bounced right back against Reading on Wednesday. The Muhls blew past the Red KNights 11-3. The win continues a trend for the Muhls in their matchups with the Red KNights: they've now won seven in a row.
Muhlenberg let Liam Vargas and Marvin Frias Vargas run wild. Vargas went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Frias Vargas went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave Vargas a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gavin Moody, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
Muhlenberg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Reading only posted an OBP of .355.
Meanwhile, Penn Manor had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Red Tornado.
Ben Patterson looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Penn Manor is 2-1 when Patterson allows two or fewer earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Billy Riggs, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Angel Luna was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Penn Manor pushed their record up to 7-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Muhlenberg, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
