After four games on the road, Drake/Anamoose is heading back home. They will take on the Westhope/Newburg Sioux at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Thursday, Drake/Anamoose was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-49 to Parshall.
Meanwhile, Westhope/Newburg's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their 11th straight loss. They took a serious blow against Bottineau, falling 73-38. While losing is never fun, Westhope/Newburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while Bottineau is ranked third).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Kimberly Tabarez, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Tabarez is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Macy Bryans, who scored 13 points along with five assists and two steals.
Drake/Anamoose has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Westhope/Newburg, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-11.
Things could have been worse for Drake/Anamoose, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 64-47 loss to Westhope/Newburg in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Drake/Anamoose, Ellie Braaten (who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 19 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
