Sandburg is 1-8 against Lincoln-Way East since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Sandburg Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Lincoln-Way East Griffins at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Even though Sandburg has not done well against Bolingbrook recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Sandburg strolled past Bolingbrook with points to spare, taking the game 42-27. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Sandburg.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sandburg to victory, but perhaps none more so than Luke Basiorka, who rushed for 184 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Anthony Shelton, who threw for 260 yards and four touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Lincoln-Way East put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. Given Lincoln-Way East's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Homewood-Flossmoor is ranked 93rd), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Their wins bumped Sandburg to 5-2 and Lincoln-Way East to 7-0.
Sandburg was taken down by Lincoln-Way East 44-0 when the teams last played back in September of 2022. Can Sandburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
