HOLBROOK, Ariz. -
St. Johns (Ariz.) snapped the four-game winning streak of
Holbrook (Ariz.), with a 34-12 victory on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Wyatt Vaughn touchdown pass to
Jake Zieler in the first quarter, the Redskins were up 27-0 at the half.
St. Johns grew its lead to 28 points entering the fourth quarter. SJ scored once in the quarter on a defensive touchdown.
The Redskins scored 20 points in the first quarter on the way to a win. St. Johns scored on a touchdown pass by Vaughn to Zieler, a
Garrett Davis touchdown run and a touchdown run by
Sherod Bride in the quarter.
Zieler stood out for SJ in the win. The senior wide receiver caught one touchdown. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
The Roadrunners came in surrendering 14.9 points per game this season. Holbrook had a hard time against St. Johns' offense, who entered the game scoring 39.9 points per game. St. Johns went into the matchup giving up only 15.7 points per game. Holbrook's 12 points were well below its season average of 34.0 per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Holbrook, who notched a 59-0 victory over Alchesay in its previous outing.
Holbrook (5-3) goes up against Round Valley in a V Section V game matchup next week, while St. Johns (7-1) locks horns with Alchesay also in a V Section V game.
