The Castle View Sabercats will venture away from home to challenge the Ponderosa Mustangs at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Castle View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Castle View is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Regis Jesuit, who was ranked third at the time (Castle View was ranked 11th). The Sabercats came up short against the Raiders on Friday, falling 17-10. The defeat continues a trend for the Sabercats in their meetings with the Raiders: they've now lost six in a row.
Derek Gordon was cooking despite his team's loss, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-5. Alexander Harris was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Ponderosa entered their tilt with Highlands Ranch on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Falcons 19-9.
Kyle Redman looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ethan Alejo was incredible, going 3-for-6 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Isai Santaella, who went 1-for-5 with one home run and four RBI.
Ponderosa lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.
Ponderosa pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Castle View, their loss dropped their record down to 15-6.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Castle View hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .352. However, it's not like Ponderosa struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Castle View came out on top in a nail-biter against Ponderosa in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sabercats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
