Sacred Heart hasn't had much luck against Meridian recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Crusaders will take on the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Sacred Heart will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Last Friday, Sacred Heart beat Forrest County Agricultural 13-9.
Kensie Baugh was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, Sacred Heart got a massive performance out of Caroline Sellers, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Jana Phillips, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple.
Sacred Heart lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in February.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Meridian duked it out with Quitman on Saturday. The Wildcats blew past the Panthers 15-4. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Meridian also got a great performance from Sherriah Grace as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, Grace posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Taylor Ruffin was incredible, scoring four runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted over her last two matches. Alaysia Barlow was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Sacred Heart's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.8 runs. As for Meridian, their record is now 8-16.
Sacred Heart couldn't quite finish off Meridian in their previous matchup back in February and fell 10-8. Can the Crusaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
