Calvert was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in Southern Maryland. Earlier in the week, the Cavaliers defeated Allegany 37-30.
McDonough was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting North Point. The Rams came in at 16 in the state poll after placing at number 31 last week.
Huntingtown's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Zach Piazza threw for 154 and four touchdowns and Bryan Rawlings had 87 yards receiving. On the ground Arnez Bowens chipped in 267 yards. Brian Kelly helped Huntingtown's passing attack out by catching two balls for 40 yards.
Devone Boone provided a threat through the air and on the ground as McDonough topped the Eagles. He completed 20 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 53 yards. Boone's favorite target this week was Lavantre Renaud, who caught five passes for 71 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Brandon Battle of North Point is the league leader in passing yards this season with 847. He has also thrown eight touchdowns. On the ground, Leonardtown's Stephen Stewart has rushed for 912 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is James Harrell. The McDonough star has 26 catches for 572 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Patuxent and Luke Ethington's team. The Panthers comes into the matchup ranked 19th in the state, while the Rams ranks 16th.
The Raiders' Stewart needs only 88 yards against Calvert next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
McDonough extended the longest winning streak in Southern Maryland this week by beating Ken Lane's team, 28-21. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
