A well-balanced attack led Estero over Mariner in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Wildcats blew the Tritons out of the water with a 28-0 final score. Considering the Wildcats have won five games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Estero's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nathan Watters, who rushed for 55 yards and a pair of TDs. Watters also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Wildcats are undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise. Kegan Kreuscher did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 80 receiving yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Estero's defense and their 3.5 sacks. Jack Shank refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Estero got some further help from Aidan Houle: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made 12 total tackles (1.5 for loss).
The win made it two in a row for Estero and bumps their season record up to 5-3. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 22 points in those games. As for Mariner, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
Coming up, Estero will take on Island Coast at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats will be up against the Gators' rather soft defense (which has allowed 49.38 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mariner, they will challenge Ida Baker at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
