After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Girard, the McKinley Red Dragons were happy to have found some success on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 49-46 win over Lakeview. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win McKinley has posted yet this season.
Among those leading the charge was Katie Heinselman, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ava Ferri, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Lakeview saw an underclassman step up: Annabelle Humphrey scored 14 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Izzy Haines was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
McKinley's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-8. As for Lakeview, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McKinley will take on Hubbard at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lakeview on the road again on Saturday and play against Mathews at 1:00 p.m. on January 20th. Mathews is on a three-game streak of home losses, Lakeview a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
