Carrboro hasn't had much luck against South Granville recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Jaguars will be playing at home against the Vikings at 5:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Carrboro will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating East Chapel Hill, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Jaguars put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 8-1 win on Wednesday. Considering the Jaguars have won four games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Joe Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has become a key player for Carrboro: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Evan Stowe was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Carrboro's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Levi Bienstock also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, South Granville earned an 8-4 victory over Durham School of the Arts on Thursday.
Like Carrboro, South Granville also got a great game from a two-way player: Cooper Wilkins. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Wilkins has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noah Edwards, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Vani Hernandez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.
Carrboro pushed their record up to 5-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for South Granville, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Carrboro has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Granville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Carrboro suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to South Granville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
