After flying high against Grandview Heights on Saturday, Columbus Academy came back down to earth. The Vikings came up short against the Bexley Lions on Tuesday, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 on September 4th.
Columbus Academy was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Bexley work for it, especially in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 25-15, 25-21.
Morgan Spalding paced Columbus Academy's offense, picking up 11 kills. Spalding got some help from Sammie Wurtzman and her 21 assists. Wurtzman was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.
Bexley found their leader in sophomore Scarlett Larimer, who had seven digs and one assist. Lila Wade also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
Columbus Academy's loss ended a three-match streak of away wins and brought them to 11-8. As for Bexley, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matches. Columbus Academy will square off against Reynoldsburg at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bexley, after both having extra time off, they and Bishop Ready will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
