Plainfield and Tri-West Hendricks are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Quakers will challenge the Bruins at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Tri-West Hendricks will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Plainfield extended their winning streak to five on Wednesday. The Quakers' pitcher stepped up to hand Martinsville a 13-0 shutout. Give the Quakers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
The team relied heavily on Cali Clemments, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Sydney Sauri also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Plainfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Tri-West Hendricks made easy work of Crawfordsville on Wednesday and carried off a 15-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bruins.
Natalie Tharp made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Tri-West Hendricks let Sophie White and Peyton Norman run wild. White got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Norman went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kacee Trivett, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs.
Plainfield's victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Tri-West Hendricks, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Plainfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .382. However, it's not like Tri-West Hendricks struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
